Production plans can combine demand from orders and bills of materials. Selected data and settings determine the proposal for manufacturing and material procurement.

Date changes need to be considered in the agreed planning workflow. Check stock data, operations and feedback before approving a new plan.

    Multi-level structures decide how far the requirement is calculated through.

    Firm commitments need different planning from indicative dates.

    Start by assessing the workstations that constrain production.

    Without actual data, any plan remains an assumption.

Test the workflow

Use a representative bill of materials and an order with limited material or workstation availability. Record which quantity is available, what needs procurement and who confirms a date. A material proposal is not yet a reliable delivery commitment.

ERPNext documentation describes production plans, work orders and Job Cards. Your test depends on the configured version, operations and shop-floor feedback. Include a partial production run or missing material rather than showing only the uninterrupted flow.

Data and acceptance criteria

Compare planned and actual quantities or times. Establish when a change triggers replanning, who reviews the proposal and which integration supplies the data. Complete automatic replanning after every date change is not assumed without a validated workflow.

What is production planning and control?

Production planning and control connects order scheduling, material requirements, workstation capacity and shop-floor feedback. Quality checks are included where the workflow requires them. The plan informs decisions; it does not guarantee delivery dates.

What is the difference between PPC and ERP?

An ERP is the overall system for the whole business. PPC is the part of it that plans and controls manufacturing. In ERPNext, PPC is a module within the ERP.

Does ERPNext plan material and capacity together?

Material planning and work orders use connected data. How workstation capacity, operations and dates are considered needs validation against your configuration and a representative order.

Can work orders be scheduled?

ERPNext documents operation scheduling using configured workstations and working hours. Check the installed version, operation durations and sequence, and a bottleneck case. This does not establish complete detailed scheduling for every business.

Do I need all of manufacturing in ERPNext for this?

Planning lives on connected data such as bills of material and stock. We start where the lever is biggest.
