When each system is the better choice.
Odoo, when the ecosystem counts
You want a particularly large selection of ready-made apps and you value the polished Enterprise interface. Or you already use the Odoo ecosystem heavily and certain specialist apps are more mature there for your case.
ERPNext, when openness and user count count
You want to scale without per-user licence cost, full openness and control over your data matter to you, and many internal users should work in the system without licence cost growing per head.
Compare edition, hosting and API together.
For Odoo, edition, plan and hosting need to fit together. The vendor places Standard on Odoo Online without custom modules. Custom includes Studio, multiple companies and the external API; Odoo.sh hosting costs extra. Odoo Community is a separate comparison case, rather than a free Enterprise plan.
ERPNext has no software licence fee per user. Operation remains a separate responsibility: hosting, updates, backups, permissions and support need an owner. Assess any hosting or support service separately from the free software.
Compare the same sample workflow: an order with a partial quantity, a changed price and a later correction. Record what works as standard, what needs configuration and what requires additional code or apps. This makes a feature list a traceable test for your business.
For the quote, separate recurring licence, hosting and support expenses from one-time implementation, migration and customisation. Compare user roles, data volume and the same period; a large team alone does not determine overall value. Sources checked on 1 October 2026.

Is ERPNext completely free?
The software itself carries no licence fee. You pay for hosting, the rollout and support, that is, for the work rather than for user licences.
Is Odoo not free as well?
The Community edition is; many functions sit in the paid Enterprise version.
What if I am unsure?
